The above-mentioned drawbacks are overcome, and improvements are achieved, by a system for generating pulsed laser beam, which comprises: a laser diode pump for generating a raw laser beam; a wavelength-division multiplexer connected to said pump, for multiplexing the raw laser beam; an erbium-doped fibre connected to said multiplexer; an isolator connected to said erbium-doped fibre; a coupler, one end of which is connected to said isolator, and the other end of which is connected to the
port through which the pulsed laser beam is output; and a saturable absorber made of erbium-doped fibre, one end of which is connected to said coupler, and the other end of which is connected to said multiplexer. Preferably, said pump generates a raw laser beam of the wavelength of 980 nm and the power of 60 to 142 mW, said erbium-doped fibre is of the length of 2400 mm; said coupler outputs 20% of the laser beam, said saturable absorber is of the length of 110 mm, and the pulsed laser beam is of the wavelength of 1530 to 1565 nm. Advantageously, two ends of said saturable absorber are fusion-spliced to said coupler and multiplexer via two separate single-mode fibres each of the length of 50 mm.
