University of Malaya has successfully produced a field-tested, self-cleaning mobile ultrafiltration unit driven by solar power. Each of these easily–maintained, low-energy plug-and- play units use an efficient membrane module technology to treat water from different sources including flood water, addressing the needs of 1000 individuals per day at a cost of less than RM0.20 per 1000 Litre of clean water produced. International media coverage by Al-Jazeera and a recent collaboration with an industry partner will allow more units to be distributed nationwide creating long term outcomes including jobs and GNI impacts.
