Portable Device for Scoliosis Assessment

Scoliosis is a common spine problem caused by the lateral curvature of the spine. It is essential for physicians to check for the shoulder balance of scoliosis patients pre- and postoperatively to evaluate the outcome of corrective surgery. Also, change in shoulder height difference (SHD) acts as a guide for monitoring the progression of scoliosis in patients. However, there are many drawbacks and limitations with the existing methods that cause the diagnosis of scoliosis and shoulder balance assessment to be ineffective and unreliable.

ScoltechTM can quantitatively diagnose scoliosis and evaluate shoulder balance of scoliosis patients. It was programmed to measure and intuitively display clinical parameters of scoliosis patients. The reliability of the device was verified by spine surgeons through clinical testing.

Being able to provide convenient and accurate quantitative measurements make the ScoltechTM device better than state-of-the-art technology. The  ScoltechTM is proven to be useful in helping medical doctors in measuring the clinical parameters of scoliosis patients. The device also has great potential to be marketed to become a conventional tool used by the public especially the scoliosis patients for self-diagnosis and spinal curvature monitoring.

The advantages:

  • Convenience and quantitative measurements
  • Better than the state-of-the-art technology
  • Helping medical doctors and the public in measuring the scoliosis patients and spinal curvature monitoring.
