Optical Integrated Microfibre Device for Refractive Index and Temperature Sensing

1. Technology Overview

The present invention discloses an optical integrated microfibre device for refractive index and temperature sensing consists of a 3-port circular; an optical microfibre having a microfibre knot resonator, MKR, a Sagnac loop reflector, a microfibre coupler; two untampered fibre end and; and a thin layer of low-refractive –index resin coated on the 3-port circulator and the optical microfibre except for the MKR sensing region. This optical integrated microfibre device with an MKR integrated with a Sagnac loop reflector exhibits a linear response to both temperature and refractive index variation. A small change in free spectral range is observed when the microfibre device experiences a large refractive index change in the surrounding medium. The change is found to be in agreement with calculated results based on dispersion relationships.
