Method For Preparing Graphene Quantum Dots For Use As A Lubricant Modifier

1. Technology Overview

In one aspect, the present invention provides a method for preparing graphene quantum dots, GQDs, comprising of a first step of reacting graphene oxide in solution of diluted Nitric acid under reflux at a temperature of less than 100°C; a second step of cooling the solution of the preceding step to room temperature; a third step of neutralizing the pH of the cooled solution in the second step; a  fourth step of subjecting the neutralized solution of the third step to ultra-sonication and filtration through a micro-porous membrane; and a fifth step of subjecting the mixture of the fourth step to heat treatment at a temperature ranging from 180°C to 220°C, to thereby obtain a Graphene Quantum Dot solution. In accordance to another aspect, the present invention provides a lubricant comprising a lubricant modifier of graphene quantum dots.
