1. Technology Overview
The present invention relates to a connector for connecting, for example a steel beam to concrete-filled hollow column, structural members of a building. The connector comprises an elongated member or shank, a head formed at the first end of the elongated member , a sleeve member of which the elongated member is inserted there through, a clamping member formed on the outer surface of the sleeve member , an anchoring member formed on the outer surface of the sleeve member , and an anchoring end formed at the second end of the elongated member or shank . The connector is for providing dynamic properties such as energy dissipation and increasing the ductility of the connector in terms of the connection, and the static properties such as increasing the stiffness and the strength of the connector in terms of the connection; preventing the connector slippage, the connector elongation, and column surface flexibility; and increasing the load carrying capacity of the connector in terms of the connection. Furthermore, the connector as well as its usage thereof is capable of reducing the pillar-per-space (square feet) ratio of a space i.e. to increase space by reducing the pillars within the space. The connector is a bolt and for example, it is specialized for beam-to-concrete-filled tubular (CFT) column connections.
