On the 8th and 9th of December, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) hosted the Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) summit at the KL Convention Centre (KLCC). MCY was aimed at boosting research, development and innovation (R, D & I) from local research institutions and universities as wealth generators through commercialisation. The summit is the culmination of the efforts of the government to achieve that goal.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as well as the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Secretary-General of MoF. The event was then divided into two main parallel events, the Main Conference at the Plenary Hall for the public; and the Cluster Labs for subject and industry experts.
UM participated as exhibitor with five (5) products showcased under 4 clusters, namely:
- Industrial Technology cluster : Self-cleaning mobile ultrafiltration unit
- Biotechnology/Agriculture cluster : Prawn checker
- Medical and Health cluster : MEDCOM-OR
- Medical and Health cluster : Dosimeter
- Electrical/Electronic/Nanotechnology cluster: Hydrogen Power Generator
The 2nd day continued with an ‘Innovation by Design’ bootcamp. UM sent 20 participants comprised of academics and students to the design-thinking workshop. The closing ceremony was officiated by the 2nd Minister of Finance.
